An event film that opens outside the event. Beginning in the streets and crafts of Damascus and only then widening into the fair gives the pavilions a context they cannot generate themselves — by the time the flags appear, the audience already has a reason to care who is raising them. The grade is warmed just enough to bind two very different kinds of footage into one afternoon.
